Mr. Eric Davey
Representing: Greater Detroit District - MiGCSA

I have worked within the golf industry for the last 25 years. This work experience has brought me great opportunities to work with great people and see amazing things. As a current Michigan Turfgrass Foundation board member, I feel it is important for me to give back some of the great experiences I have had in this industry. To help ensure we, as members of the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation, continue to support Michigan State University and its turfgrass program. GO GREEN!!


Mr. Curt Boak
Representing: Turfgrass Services Representative 

I have enjoyed being in the greens industry for the past 25 years and look forward to many more. My career started in the landscape construction field and then it took me to the residential/commercial lawn care industry where I have been the last 20 years. Serving on the board has been a great experience and has allowed me to meet others who share the same passion for turf as I do. I am honored to be a part of an organization that supports the turfgrass program at Michigan State University, continuing education, research, and extension.



Mr. Mitch Hooten
Representing: Sports or Institutional Turf

A native of Newport, MI, Hooten recently completed his seventh season as the Head Groundskeeper for the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2023. He was named the 2019 and 2021 Midwest League Groundskeeper of the Year. Hooten was also named as the 2019 Single-A Groundskeeper of the Year during the winter meetings in San Diego, CA (Winter 2019).

Before joining the Whitecaps in 2017, Hooten graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Agronomy with an emphasis in Golf and Sports Turf Management. While attending school he interned for the Toledo Mudhens and the Detroit Tigers. Upon graduating he went on to work for the Nashville Sounds, and the Kannapolis Intimidators. In 2016 he became the Head Groundskeeper for the Beloit Snappers, now the Beloit Sky Carp of the Midwest League.

While being the Head Groundskeeper of the Whitecaps, Hooten is currently the President of the Michigan Sports Field Managers Association and is also on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation representing Sports and Institutional Turf. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his wife Emily, and daughters Maddy, Charlee, and Hayden. #hailstate



Mr. Christian Koval
Representing: Mid Michigan District

I have been involved in the golf industry for 25 years and developed a passion for golf course maintenance immediately after high school, getting my start in the Flint area. I am a proud 2004 graduate of the Michigan State Turfgrass Program and have been a golf course superintendent for 10 years, the last 9 at Lakelands Golf & Country Club in Brighton. I am honored to serve the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation as I feel it is critical to our industry and in supporting the best Turfgrass Program in the country.

Mr. Adam Palmatier
Representing: Commercial Turfgrass Supplier

Following graduation in 1999 from Michigan State University’s 2-year Golf Turf Management program, Adam has had many rolls within the turfgrass industry. He has been a Golf Course Superintendent, a lawn care Owner/Operator, a Turfgrass Pathology Research Assistant and Operations Coordinator at the Hancock Turfgrass Center. He currently is the Branch Manager/Territory Manager for Helena Chemical’s Michigan Specialty location. With this experience, Adam understands the daily undertakings of his peers in the industry. While on the Board for MTF Adam hopes to continue building relationships with all the hard working people in turfgrass industry of our state.



Mr. Jeff Holmes CGCS
Representing: Western Michigan District

I graduated from the two year turf program in 1983 and from there accepted the superintendent job at Alpena Country Club. In 1985 I accepted the superintendent job for “The Bear” course at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, In 1987 became the Director of Golf and Grounds at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. While up north I served on the Northern Michigan Turf grass Managers Association for nine years and served as president for two years. In 1993 I accepted the superintendent job at Egypt Valley Country Club and remain there today. Served on the Western Michigan Golf Course Superintendent Association and served as president. Also served on the MTF board for five years and have now been back on the MTF board again. My feeling is give what you can back to the industry and you will receive more back to you, than what you gave.



Mr. Brad Lazroff
Representing: Cemetery, Park or Sod Representative

Brad is a proud graduate of the 2-year Golf Turf Management Program at MSU and has spent the last 15 years as a golf course superintendent. Currently Brad is the Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor at Huron Meadows Metropark in Brighton, MI where he oversees an 18-hole public golf course, a 1500-acre park with hiking trails and picnic facilities, and in the winter one of Southeast Michigan’s top cross-country ski programs. Brad believes that being involved with the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation is an opportunity to give back to the industry that has given him countless opportunities. The research being done at MSU with the MTF’s support is an intricate part of our industries future, and it is exciting to be a part of that.



Mr. Dan Mausolf LIC, CSP, ASM
Representing: Lawn and Maintenance

I have been part of the green industry for over 25 years dedicating 19 of those years to golf turf and many aspects of golf business.  Beginning in 2016, I altered career paths to pursue the professional lawn care industry. Currently, I serve as the General Manager at Stine Turf & Snow and have taken on responsibilities and titles including Landscape Industry Certified Manager, Certified Snow Professional as well as Advanced Snow Manager.

I am in my third term on the Board of Directors and have served in several capacities including; Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, chairperson of Research and Field Day, chair of the LaFontaine Outing, chair of membership and serve on the Conference committee.  As current President of the Foundation I look forward to continuing my efforts to support the MTF and providing leadership for future boards.

Mr. Craig Moore
Representing: Northern Michigan District

I started working in the golf industry 30 years ago as a high school Pro shop employee at Heather Highland in Holly, Michigan. Three years later I became hooked in the turf industry when I joined the maintenance team at Mistwood in Lake Ann Michigan taking part in maintenance and construction. I completed an Internship at Oakland Hills and have also held positions at The Kingsley Club
(Construction and Maintenance) and Flushing Valley GCC (Superintendent). I am currently starting my 18 th season at the Marquette Golf Club where I am the Director of Agronomy. My staff and I take care of 36 holes (Greywalls & Heritage) for our members and guests to enjoy.

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Crop and Soil Science from Michigan State University plus an Associate of Applied Science degree in Turfgrass Management and a Sports & Commercial Turf Certificate from Northwestern Michigan Community College and MSU extension in Traverse City.

I am very interested and engaged in lowest input management and low environmental impact management by turf professionals. I enjoy golf history/architecture, turf research, cooking and most importantly time spent with my wife and 3 young boys on the golf course, in hockey rinks and hiking our amazing state.

I joined the MTF Board to give back to our wonderful industry by supporting the MSU Turf Team. I am proud that we can help the MSU turf team in their quest to research solutions to solve turfgrass problems; which helps people around the world grow improved and more sustainable turf.


Mr. Brian Schweihofer
Representing: At Large

With 26 years of experience as a golf course superintendent, including 18 years at the prestigious Franklin Hills Country Club, Brian Schweihofer brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation (MTF). His unwavering commitment to the industry is evident in his previous service on the MTF board as a board member and past president. 

A strong advocate for the future of turfgrass management, Brian is passionate about fostering innovation and growth within the industry. His extensive experience and unwavering dedication to excellence make him an invaluable asset to the MTF. 

Beyond his professional endeavors, Brian is a devoted family man, married to his wife Julie for 25 years and raising three children. His son is pursuing a turfgrass management degree at Michigan State University, further exemplifying Brian's commitment to the industry's future. 

This is a pivotal time for the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation, and Brian is eager to re-engage with the organization and contribute his expertise to its continued success. His passion for turfgrass management, unwavering dedication to the industry, and commitment to mentoring the next generation of turfgrass professionals make him an ideal candidate for the board position.



Mr. Chris Wilcznski
Representing: At Large

Chris is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, and the owner of C.W. Golf Architecture, located in Saline, Michigan. Chris attended Michigan State University where he earned a degree in Landscape Architecture in 1994. Chris has also taught the golf course design and construction class at MSU for the last 7 years. His 33-year career has been dedicated tohelping golf courses and superintendents develop and implement design solutions that enhance playability and challenge, improve maintenance, and provide enjoyment and social benefits to golfers of all abilities. Chris is excited to have the opportunity to serve on the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation Board and believes that his background and expertise will provide valuable perspective to the organization.


Mr. Scott Rettmann
Representing: At Large

I have been in the turfgrass industry for 20 years and have worked in both Michigan and Pennsylvania. I am a Michigan State University graduate in Turfgrass Management and most recently I have been the Superintendent of Walnut Creek Country Club in South Lyon, MI since 2012. After completing my degree, and having had enjoyed many successes stemming from the wonderful education at MSU, I have enjoyed serving on the MTF Board of Directors as a way to continue to support MSU’s Turfgrass Programs. Outside of work I am married with two children and enjoy golf, traveling, and general aviation.
